A Young Man Gets Arrested for DUI, Talks to The Human Resources Manager About His Depression, and Becomes Encouraged to Turn His Life Around and Recoup His Self Respect

Derek was known at work as really conservative individual who had a superb attendance record. He never attended any of the happy hours right after work and it was regarded throughout the workplace that he was a very religious individual who usually spoke about the potential issues of alcohol abuse and dependency on alcohol in our country.

When he got to the HR department and met with the manager, he described that he hadn’t been inebriated since his college days and that he was rather humiliated about his “driving under the influence” arrest. Stated differently, Derek really wanted the Human Resources manager to agree that he needed to see a DUI attorney.

In addition, the Human Resources director told Derek that it was good that he wanted to hire a “driving while intoxicated” lawyer mainly because of the complexities and problematic consequences which are related to a DUI conviction.

The Human Resources director could tell that Derek was plainly distressed and embarrassed by this whole predicament. For this reason he told Derek that while he doesn’t feel that conscientious individuals should ever get behind the wheel right after consuming alcohol, regrettably these circumstances sometimes occur to incredibly good men and women.

The Human Resources director then stated that because such a scenario can’t be undone, what’s crucial is what the person does from this moment in time forward. As articulated by the Human Resources director, “does the individual learn from his/her mistakes or does the individual develop a pattern of alcohol related difficulties that cause the person chronic suffering and pain”?

Fortunately, Derek Did Not Have a History of Excessive Drinking

Just before finishing their conversation, the Human Resources director explained to Derek that it was quite positive that he doesn’t have a record of irresponsible and careless drinking. Furthermore, he hasn’t had an alcohol-related condition since his college days (which was almost 6 years ago). Consequently, Derek ought to be in a position to confront his DUI arrest with remorse but also with confidence that he will confront and work through this condition and become an even better person in the not too distant future.

First, he would be required to take a DUI class to learn more DUI facts and information. Second, he would also be required to take an alcohol abuse class to address his possible problem drinking. Third, he would be required to see a counselor,  psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist about his depression.  And finally, it would be a particularily intelligent thing to do if he were to consult with a DUI lawyer about his “driving while intoxicated” arrest.

Derek Feels Encouraged That He Will Learn From His Slip-Up and Grow To Be Even More Responsible

It was apparent that Derek was incredibly depressed with the entire “drunk driving” situation, but after talking to the Human Resources director and to the counselor inside the company employee’s assistance program, he felt encouraged that he would in actual fact learn from his error in judgment and grow to be even more healthy, even more responsible, and an even more thankful individual.
